Blue O'Connell is a singer/songwriter and certified music practitioner. An accomplished guitarist from Chicago, she got her began her professional music career accompanying singers. Upon moving to Charlottesville in 1989, she found her own voice as a songwriter after being invited to a women's gathering.
The story goes that she was asked to bring an object to represent where she was in her life's journey at that time and she composed a song to for the occasion. From there, many more songs were born!
She recently released her first CD, "Choose the Sky" which is a musical tapestry of introspective songs that draw the listener in from the first note.
Themes of nature always make their way into her music with songs titled, "Once I Was the Wind", "Transcriptions (of a Wasp's Nest)," and "Owl's Dream". While most of the songs were composed in recent years, a few of them go all the way back to 1989.
She is employed as a certified music practitioner at the University of Virginia hospital playing therapeutic music for patients. In addition, she leads sing alongs with groups of individuals with intellectual disabilities and elderly.
